What Language Do You Speak?

Day 1: Dr. Gary Chapman

I didn’t think Justin and I fought a lot when we were dating until we read The Five Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman. I realized I took it for granted when Justin would hold open car doors for me. After all, I was looking for a gentleman. What I realized was that everything Justin did for me was truly out of love, not some chivalrous sense of duty.

Gary Chapman, 7 Day Family Challenege

His primary love language is Acts of Service, and once I recognized that, I was able to appreciate him more and begin to love him in a language he understood, not the one that was primary to me (Words of Affirmation).

The philosophies in that book changed our lives, even though we are complete opposites. Justin and I have the lowest score in each other’s language, so we have to work at it. Yet even after thirteen years of marriage, we still refer to our “love tank levels” and are quickly able to adjust and get back on course with each other after a disagreement. In fact, Justin loves it so much that he shares the principles with his military co-workers all the time, and I’ve applied it to a popular workshop I teach at churches and women’s retreats.

Now we get to share it with you.

Today begins the first day of the free 7-Day Family Challenge sponsored by {Zig} Ziglar Family.
