Day 22-31: Trick, Treat, or Treadmill

Bethanyjett.com

[guestpost]This is not a health & fitness blog, but when I saw the #Write31Days Challenge, I knew I wanted to pick a topic that I struggled with. In order to lead a Brilliant Life, the stress-eating has to stop. Welcome to the 31 Days to Stop Binge-Eating collection. Glad you’re here! #LiveBrilliant[/guestpost]

It’s been 31 days of this writing challenge which is crazy. I wasn’t sure if I would write every day…and I didn’t…but I think that’s okay. I didn’t want this to become a play-by-play food log. However, the accountability of the challenge did help.

#1 Gym membership.

I LOVE working out with my husband, but consistency has not been my friend. I’m becoming comfortable at our new gym and I’m excited to be lifting weights again. I’m also working on my mile time. I’d tell you what it is, but when I told Justin, he looked at me pretty shocked. Apparently walking a 20-minute mile isn’t great. *wink*

#2 More Veggies

There is an awesome little “Mom & Pop” restaurant near us that serves the most amazing fresh, hormone-free, antibiotic-free proteins, veggies, and sauces. Delish. After our FSU vs Clemson game “party” – (My Noles played well…lost…#sadface), I took the leftover broccoli from the veggie tray and steamed it. LOVE broccoli with parmesan or cheddar cheese and it helps my kids eat it, too. It seems like I’m having an easier time adding in some healthy choices while we eat through the stuff I’ve already bought.

#3 Plexus

I was going to go back to the Shakeology drinks because they are awesome. I really like the chocolate one with frozen bananas blended with it. My friend gave me sample of the coffee one and it’s delish, too. However, my sister went to a Plexus party last week and LOVED what she heard. She became a Plexus consultant and my Pink Slim packets arrived today. Part of using the Slim is to drink a ton of water. I’m looking forward to using their products and see how they work combined with the gym and better eating habits.

#4 Better Eating Habits

Our family was involved with two Fall Festivals and tonight we went trick-or-treating. That’s quite the candy haul for this year — much more than ever before. And yet I think I’ve snagged less of their stash than in past years. I mentioned in one of the posts that I had stocked the freezer with DiGiorno and chicken nuggets, but now that we’ve gone through those, I’m being selective about what takes their place.

#5 More Water

Justin bought me a teal RTIC tumbler and it’s amazing. I’m drinking so much more water now than ever. The Rtic cups are comparable to the Yeti or the Ozark brands. I was sold when I woke up in the middle of the night dying of thirst and stole some sips of Justin’s water. It had been about six or seven hours since he’d put ice in it and it was still super cold. Get yours: Justin has the silver RTIC  and I have the teal. Mine is so pretty and I love carrying it around.

Final Results

The binge-eating hasn’t happened so often as it did before. I’ve noticed that by not following a specific diet or eating plan, I’m able to make calculated choices with every bite…because I want to, not because I have to. Because I can have a piece of cake (or two), I don’t feel like I’m deprived, so it makes it easier to say no. The other night I cooked a lot of chicken and tomorrow night we’re having homemade tacos using ground turkey instead of red meat. Tonight we had pizza…and I don’t feel guilty about it.

I’m not noticing a difference on the scale, but now that I’ve been conscious of binge-ing…and did so much better than ever this month, I’m ready to go to the next step. I’ve already put my action items in place: healthier menus for future dinners,  gym time, and some Plexus.

All in all, I’m pleased that I took the #Write31DaysChallenge, even though I didn’t actually write for thirty-one days. I’m excited about keeping up with this blog and I’m grateful to all of you who reached out and let me know about your own journeys. We can do this!
